5 Ways to Take Care of Your Candles for a Longer, Cleaner Burn

5 Ways to Take Care of Your Candles for a Longer, Cleaner Burn

1. Trim the Wick RegularlyBefore lighting your candle, always trim the wick to about ¼ inch. This helps prevent excessive smoke, reduces soot, and allows for an even burn. A long wick can cause your candle to burn unevenly or create a larger flame that wastes wax.

2. Burn Your Candle Long Enough for a Full Melt PoolThe first burn is crucial! Allow your candle to burn until the wax melts all the way across the top. This prevents "tunneling," where wax builds up on the sides, and ensures an even burn every time.

3. Keep Your Candle Away from DraftsBurn your candle in a spot free from drafts, fans, or air conditioning vents. Moving air can cause the flame to flicker and lead to uneven burning, excess soot, or even unsafe situations.

4. Use a Candle Snuffer to Extinguish the FlameBlowing out your candle can create smoke and spread soot. Instead, use a candle snuffer or gently dip the wick into the melted wax to extinguish it. This method keeps your wick clean and primed for the next burn.

5. Store Your Candles ProperlyWhen not in use, store your candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Exposure to high temperatures can cause the wax to soften, and sunlight can fade the color or scent. Covering your candles also keeps dust and debris away.
